Charcoal will remain useable for a very long period if stored covered and in almost airtight conditions. Coals are still functional even after many years, though briquettes may start to crumble with time. Indeed, the longer the substance is kept covered, the drier it will be and the simpler it will be to ignite.

Wood or other organic materials are heated above 400° C (750° F) in an oxygen-starved atmosphere to produce charcoal. Pyrolysis is an exothermic process, which means that once it begins, heat is released.

For items made of charcoal, there is no shelf life. On the other hand, the strength of the quick light goods will gradually decrease. As long as the outer bag is kept closed or resealed after usage, we estimate that these kind of products have a two-year shelf life.
